it is exactly 5 months today since i went into the taipei veteran's hospital and had the gamma knife radio surgery. another one ... i know, but marking these points in time are very important to me. time is the only thing that i really need to recover so, as i mark off each month, i am marking off one more small victory, one more step towards full recovery and the ultimate goal, the prize at the end of 'the big wait', normality! god, it is still so far away, but i have to keep reminding myself that; eventually i will be able to saunter down the street again, i won't have to visit hospitals every month and carry bags of medication wherever i go, i will be able to listen to my music and jump up and down if i bloody well want to, i will be able to have sex again and i will finally be able to just live my fuckin' life again. yeah! bring it on!
last night, as i watched michael moore's new film, 'sicko', i was again reminded of how lucky i am to be in taiwan getting excellent, cheap and conscientious medical care. thank god i am not american, or stuck in south africa where the medical aid companies are just as corrupt, greedy and uncaring. one of my greatest blessings.
AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE FOR ALL!
